A more secure and slightly more effective ball gag

A few years ago, I wrote on this blog about the functions of a gag. In my opinion a gag must:

  1. disable communication
  2. enforce silence
  3. disable the use of teeth (to bite, or to grab or handle objects)
  4. be safe (also for wearing for long periods) and comfortable
  5. void attempts by the wearer to remove it
  6. mark the wearer as a submissive in an erotic context

I also noted that the standard ball gag isn't very good at most of these goals (it performs abominably on the first two points), but it shines on the last one. Girls with a ball gag between their teeth look so sexy. I dare to claim that this is the primary reason for the continuous popularity of the ball gag.

So I set out to do some experiments on improvements to the basic ball gag design, without loosing its appeal. Not because I want to make gags, but because the research is fun.

Here I present a ball gag with a shape like a short tube with rounded ends. The closest term for that shape that I have found is "capsule". That biggest part of the capsule sits inside the mouth; the part that is outside is only the rounded cap on one end. When worn, it will look just like a normal ball gag.

Actually, the gag shape is not a capsule, because the inserted part is narrower in the horizontal plane than in the vertical plane. The capsule is "pinched" on one end, so to speak. It is needed to reduce the width at the back, because the space between the teeth at the back end of the jaw is roughly 35mm for the average person (this is a ballpark estimate, I have so far been unable to find accurate values). In the vertical plane, there is no need to reduce the size, and actually it is better not to (I will get back to this below). And hence, the oval cross-section of the inserted end of the capsule.

A ball gag with an extension isn't a new idea. I have seen gags with a penis-shaped extension to insert into the mouth. In comparison with this, the capsule on my design is fairly short. The idea is to make the tube just long enough to be functional, but avoid a gag reflex.
So, what is its function? One effect of the capsule is that this gag is impossible (or at least much harder) to push out with your tonge, even if the straps aren't tight. The second effect is that the capsule restricts the tongue from moving much, and thereby it hinders intelligible mumbling. This is why the height of the tube is not reduced: the bigger it is, the less "free movement" remains for the tongue.

This adaption therefore addresses points 1 and 5 on my list of goals. It's a small step, but one that has only advantages and no drawbacks. In a future post, I will revisit this shape for an additional trick.

This model was 3D-printed. For those among you eager to experiment, below are two STL files; one for the straps and the other for the gag. The gag is in two parts, which must be glued together. Like any device inserted into someone's mouth, it has to be sterile. 3D printed parts have to be coated to ensure a smooth surface that can be kept clean and sterile. I recommend to print in PETG (rather than PLA) so that you can use hot water to was the gag off.

The Factory -- second edition

The Factory is an illustrated fictionnal story on bondage and sex. It is a follow-up to the story The Return of the Paramour . The functions of a gag

What a gag tries to achieve is one or more of the following: disable communication enforce silence mark the wearer as submissive disable the use of teeth to grab or handle objects punishment or humiliation The fourth function is often forgotten, but it is rather important. For example, someone who is bound with rope or tape and gagged with a simple cleave gag, may be able to open a drawer in the kitchen and pick up a knife from it with her mouth, then wedge it in somewhere and use it to cut through her ties. Functions #3 and #5 may go hand-in-hand. Some gags are specifically designed to be uncomfortable and unflattering. Other gags look rather nice though, but they do not hide their purpose of gagging a person. So my take is that you can have function #3 without function #5.
