Patent application (well, a fake one)

Disclaimer This is a draft that I made for fun. It was not truly filed. Alfredo Martin is a fictional character and C.E.S.C. is a fictional organization. For the (fake) patent draft, follow this link: Adult Pacifier and Muffler     Relation to the story This patent draft is inspired by my fiction ("The Return of the Paramour"). The story is intentionally vague, it does not list a single date. However, the first steps, by the illustrious organization "C.E.S.C.", supposedly happen in the 1980's (first ideas perhaps late 1970's). I imagined that the members of C.E.S.C., a group of about 12 men, were focused and determined, but not particularly wealthy or particularly skilled. There may be a dentist among them, or a civil engineer, or a music teacher, who knows. (Of one member, a bit of background is disclosed: he is a (possibly retired) fashion designer and the story suggests that he has sewing equipment at his home.) But presumably, not one of the

Prior art

As I wrote before, I wanted the gag design for the story "The Return of the Paramour" to be realistic ("plausible" is the word I used earlier). Realistic in the sense that: 1) I think that it can be made and 2) that it functions well. Two persons wrote me that I should try to patent it. I do not intend to do so, but for fun, I started drafting a mock patent. And for that, I did a bit of research (with Google Patent search). What I found is intriguing... Gags from China I found two US patents for gags for BDSM play, a long list of patents for medical gags and an equally long list of patents for devices that have nothing to do with voice muffling, but also happen to be called gags, and then this list: CN203015899 U, Sound-reduction mask CN201515711 U, Closed muffling mask CN204169113 U, Singing practice sound insulation mask CN200959218 Y, Silencing mask CN101266787 A , A muffler for eliminating high speaking (singing) voice These are Chinese patents (t

Experimental mouthpiece, first test

The gag design for the story "The Return of the Paramour", is fiction, but meant to be "plausible", meaning that I think that it can be made. Three criterions in the story are: it is effective, it is (reasonably) comfortable, it causes no harm when worn for long periods. In an earlier experiment , I found that noise reduction with 20 dB is achievable. Recently, I made an experimental mouthpiece, to check it for comfort. Despite its "rubber" appearance, it is made from stiff plastic (a material that I had lying around). When worn, the jaws are kept apart by roughly 40 mm. Observations It seals the mouth pretty well. The shape of this experimental mouthpiece is not optimal; it fits, but does not fit well. With a better fit, the sealing effect will be better too. Little or no discomfort after one hour of wear. The test person said that after 30 minutes she started forgetting she had in in her mouth and that after 45 minutes she had to r
